Had a much better haul of pictures compared to Day 1. I guess it must be the lighting. Indoor lighting was turned up and the pics did not turn out like trash on day 1 (OTL).
Still its been a learning experience. Cosfest has been the first event I've gone to specifically to take pictures. I do have an idea of things that I need to improve on.
All photos were taken with my Canon EOS 50D with the stock 18-200mm kit lens. Its a good all round lens for taking pictures without changing lenses.
Things to improve/buy:
- I need to get a flash and a diffuser, like now. It'll at least give me more options that stubbornly refusing to use flash due to the very harsh lighting.
- The 50D comes with a nice function called Highlight Tone Priority which helps to makes minute tones stand out. I left it on after reading about it but it introduced an unacceptable amount of noise into my indoor shots. I'll be leaving it on off for now.
- Aperture / F Numbers. Its kinda funny but I always had trouble getting my head around the numbers and what they did. I finally managed to mostly understand how the values affect my shots.
I'm also looking into perhaps, purchasing my first lens. Probably a portrait lens with a low aperture number for those out of focus BG views. I'm been replicating the effect using photoshop but the effect can sometimes be very obvious.
All in all, I enjoyed myself tremendously at Cosfest this year. Its like the only event I can actually make it to regularly since I study overseas. However this year I'll actually be able to attend EOY as well.
Some of my shots can be found on sgcafe.com.
